Refining an established recording studio
At Curtis Schwartz Studio in West Sussex, we refurbished the acoustics of the control room and live room through a series of measured assessments, design revisions and installations. Curtis had worked in the studio for 34 years, so the brief required close collaboration: improving its acoustic performance while respecting a familiar recording and mixing environment.
Two monitoring positions in one control room
We assessed and calibrated the audio systems at both monitoring positions within the same control room, addressing their response and phase alignment alongside the room acoustics. Low-frequency treatment used wall-mounted and corner membrane resonators. Two-dimensional and binary-amplitude diffusers helped manage reflections and the balance of absorption and diffusion.
Controlling the live room while retaining its character
Our live-room work addressed uneven low-frequency behaviour and the balance of reflections and decay. Membrane resonators, binary-amplitude treatment and MLS-sequence diffusers formed part of the acoustic treatment across the project. Measurements and design reviews guided the work as it progressed in stages.
The client’s experience
In his January 2025 recommendation, Curtis described improved natural tonal qualities in recordings from the live room and greater accuracy in monitoring and mixing in the control room.
“Ricardo’s work has elevated the acoustics to a level I wish I had achieved decades ago.”
